A baby shower is a joyful, fun event to host, and an honor to attend! In the late eighteenth century, a baby shower got its name from the “showering” of gifts and love for the mother-to-be. Initially showers were organized as a tea party only for women and the presents were homemade and practical. Showers were hosted for a new mother for her first-born. This tradition has changed and now baby showers are held for any new addition to the family. Usually, a family member will host the baby shower.
Currently, it is not only customary for the new mother to receive gifts from her guests but often the host will give out guest favours. Food is served during the event and may be casual buffet style or a sit-down luncheon. To make your shower a memorable one, organize games so that everyone has lots of fun and laughter.
The baby shower I am featuring here is an elegant sit-down luncheon for a first time mother. It took place on a Sunday at 1:00 pm for twenty-five guests. We had an unexpected arrival, as the mother had given birth one month early (three days before the shower). With much fanfare, baby Emile was able to join the party.
