This bridal shower was very special to me as I was hosting it for a friend’s daughter, Deena, who I simply adore.
My speech to Deena:
“A bridal shower is an occasion for whispered confidences, giggles, and secrets. It’s a time for good wishes for the future and sharing memories of the past. The day of a bridal shower is a day for games, gifts, laughter, and talking about the “happy ever after.” Most of you, I have met over the years. Those of you who are new to me, I hopefully will get the opportunity by the end of this afternoon to know you as Deena knows you.
I’d like to start by firstly welcoming each one of you. We hope that you will enjoy the luncheon and all that we have in store. In front of each of you is a folder and if you’ll peek into it, you’ll find a raffle ticket with your name on it. At some point during the afternoon, we ask that you take a moment and put half of your ticket into this container. At the end of the luncheon we will be drawing a ticket and the person whose name is on it will receive a special gift.
Also, over there is a cake pedestal that we ask each of you to sign. Over the next couple of weeks, this will be completed, fired in a kiln, and will be given to Deena as a memento of this special afternoon.
Today is a celebration. It is a celebration of the warmth we feel for Deena. It is a celebration of how much she means in our lives. It is a time to wish her every happiness in the future. A little over a year ago Deena, her mother, and I were sharing a cozy dinner and a lovely bottle of wine at a small Yaletown diner when Deena said something like, ‘I don’t think I’ll ever meet the right guy.’ Well Deena, today I would like to say how glad I am that you have met that someone who is just right for you. He is all that you could want in life and I know we can entrust your future happiness to him. Deena is a warm, thoughtful, and wonderful person and all of us here today want the very best for her.
Deena is very caring and it is only right that she should meet and marry someone who will, I know, look after her and take care of her. I’ve heard that when two people get married, their nuptials have a positive effect on their community. Like someone dropping a pebble into still water, your love sends out ripples of happiness to everyone around you. It brings joy to those who have already said ‘I do’ as they fondly remember their wedding day. It brings hope to those who are still looking for that special someone and it shows young children what they have to look forward to when they grow up. So, I would now like to propose a toast to Deena, our bride-to-be. May your love remain strong to sustain you during times of struggle and enrich the good times you will share together. May it continue to send those ripples of happiness out to all of us. Congratulations Deena!”
the absolutely best bridal shower no one can celebrate an occasion as well as Lita!
Thank you my dear friend … such high praise.
