It’s always this time of year that I begin my spring cleaning, readying our home for the warmer months and preparing to welcome house guests.

Along with the standard routine of cleaning, restocking and repairing, I’ve planned to leave a few new touches for guests that I hope will make them feel comfortable and well cared for.

• Bottles of water beside the bed, with customized labels with the cityscape of Vancouver in gold foil and “Welcome.”
• Coupled with a large bar of chocolate in gold foil script “Midnight Snack” courtesy of the Lanes.
• And last, but not least, a bottle of wine, hung with an elegant tag with “This one’s on us.”
